About this independent Signal APK guide
Published: October 7, 2026 · Updated: October 8, 2026
This website is an independent guide to Signal's official Android APK. It is written for people who need Signal without the Google Play Store, and for anyone who wants to verify that the file they download is the real one. We are not Signal. We are not Google. We do not sell apps, host APK files, or run an app store. We publish text guides, and every download link points to the publisher's own official page.
What is this site, exactly?
A verification-first companion to Signal's own download page. Signal publishes an official APK for Android on signal.org/android/apk: the same app as the Play Store build, distributed directly. Our job is everything around that file that a download button cannot tell you:
- Install guides for phones without Google Play: Huawei and HarmonyOS, GrapheneOS and other de-Googled phones, custom ROMs, and regions where the Play Store is blocked or unavailable.
- Safety and verification guides: how to check the SHA-256 signing-certificate fingerprint published on Signal's download page, how to spot fake "Signal Pro" APKs, and why third-party mirrors are not worth the risk.
- Honest comparisons: the website build versus the Play Store build, Signal versus alternatives, and the independent Molly fork, always labeled as what it is.
- Troubleshooting and backup guides: notifications, calls, registration, and moving your chats to a new phone without losing them.
What is this site not?
The distinction matters, so here it is as plainly as we can put it:
| This independent guide | Signal Foundation | Google Play |
|---|---|---|
| Unaffiliated guide; no relationship with Signal or Google | The nonprofit that makes the Signal app | Google's commercial app store |
| Links to official downloads only; hosts no APK files | Publishes the official APK at signal.org | Hosts and distributes the Play build |
| Cannot help with your Signal account | Runs Signal support at support.signal.org | Runs Play Store support |
| Funded by clearly labeled advertising, if any | Nonprofit, funded by donations and grants | Commercial store run by Google LLC |
We never use the word "official" to describe ourselves, our pages, or our download links. The only official things here are Signal's own pages, which we link to.
Who runs it?
This guide is run by an independent publisher: a small editorial team, not a big company. We do not use invented author personas or fake reviewer names: every page is the work of the site's editorial team, held to the standards below. If you want to reach a human, use our contact page.
How do we verify information?
An APK guide lives or dies on accuracy. A wrong fingerprint or a bad link can send someone to malware. So every factual claim on this site follows five rules:
Official sources for facts
Version numbers, file names, package names, and security details come from signal.org, support.signal.org, or Signal's published signing-certificate fingerprint page, never from mirrors, forums, or memory.
Quote, don't invent
When we mention the SHA-256 signing fingerprint, we quote Signal's published page and link to it. If a value cannot be confirmed, we say so instead of filling in a plausible-looking one.
Check versions against the source
Download and version pages are re-checked against Signal's official download page; where it matters, the page notes when it was last verified.
Link-only, always
We never host APK files, so there is nothing on our servers that could be tampered with, outdated, or mislabeled. Every download button goes to signal.org/android/apk.
Correct openly
If we get something wrong, we fix the page and we say so. Readers who report errors through our contact page get a reply confirming the fix.
How we keep this site up to date
A version number on our pages is either right or wrong; there is no middle ground. Signal's website build changes on its own schedule, not ours, so we keep the site accurate on a fixed routine — and we fix mistakes the day we learn about them.
- A weekly version watch. Every Monday morning we check Signal's official download page and its update endpoint for a new website build, and we update every page that states the version when one appears. The first scheduled run is Monday, October 12, 2026.
- Same-day review when something changes. A new release reported anywhere, a reader correction sent through our contact page, a broken link, or Signal moving a page we reference — any of these triggers a review the same day, not the next Monday.
- Corrections are shown, not hidden. When we fix a real error, the page says so, with the date — like the correction note on our verify-signal-install guide. Readers who report errors get a reply confirming the fix.
- Honest dates. "Published" never changes: it is the page's birth date. "Updated" only appears when the content genuinely changed. We never touch a date to look fresh.
The version watch runs off a written checklist whose first rule is: never state a version number we have not seen on Signal's own page.
The full detail, including our version-check procedure, fingerprint re-verification schedule, and correction policy, lives on its own page: our verification methodology.
How is the site funded?
Independently. The site may run clearly labeled advertising in designated slots to cover hosting and editorial time. Three lines we will not cross: no paid placements disguised as guides, no sponsored rankings of download sources, and no download link that points anywhere except a publisher's own official page. Advertising does not buy a different link target. We collect no user data for advertising purposes; see our privacy policy.
What do we believe about APK safety?
Our editorial position, stated up front so you can judge our guides against it: the only safe source for Signal's APK is Signal's own official page. Third-party mirrors, "mod" editions, and "Pro/Plus/Premium" variants are either scams or security risks. There is no official Signal Pro, and anyone offering one is not offering Signal. We would rather lose a reader to signal.org than keep one with a comforting half-truth.
Looking for the official download?
Every download on this site links to Signal's own official page. We never host APK files ourselves.
